Report: Chicago Bears Trade Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers

In some shocking news Monday afternoon the Chicago Bears have reportedly traded pass rusher Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers.

Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer was the first to report the news:

Allen, one of the best pass rushers of the modern era, has been like a fish out of water playing outside linebacker in the Bears 3-4 scheme since joining the team as a free agent last year. In 18 games, Allen has recorded a total of 5.5 sacks. This came on the heels of a 10-year stretch with the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings that saw the four-time All-Pro rack up 128.5 sacks.

Carolina runs a base 4-3 defense and is in need of a hand-down pass rusher. In reality, Allen is a much better fit for the team. Current Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson suffered a hamstring injury in the team's win against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He's already been ruled out for next week and could miss more time. This was a move the Panthers had to make.

The expected compensation here is a late-around pick.
