Report: Chris Johnson Expected to Make Cardinals 53-Man Roster

Even after David Johnson's breakout preseason game, a game that happened just a few days after Chris Johnson pulled his hamstring, it sounds like Johnson might make the Cardinals' roster according to NFL.com.

Signed by the Cardinals on August 18, Johnson was expected to be part of the rotation with Andre Ellington at running back. Cardinals' coach Bruce Arians is direct with players, even in the media, so it was far from a foregone conclusion that Johnson would be handed a roster spot, but the fit seemed there.

Of course it's also important to note the amount Johnson signed for. He received the minimum, which makes him very easy to cut ties with and not blink an eye. This team needs production at running back and if he can't produce or give reason to show he can, he isn't worth the roster spot. So when he pulled his hamstring just days into camp, his odds of making the team took a hit.

His odds were further slashed when the other Johnson, David, had a breakthrough game in his preseason debut. He showed the ability to work in multiple roles and take coaching to do whatever job they needed. His emergence, though just one game, further clouded the need for Arizona to have the player formerly known as "CJ2K".

But, it seems from the NFL.com's report, that Chris Johnson will indeed make the Cardinals' 53-man roster. Johnson will not play in Arizona's third preseason game, giving David Johnson another opportunity to shine. If he does just that, Chris Johnson could be pushed down into being Arizona's third running back. Either way, Johnson's fantasy value is non-existent right now.
