Report: Cowboys QB Matt Cassel on "Short Leash" in Week 15

While the Dallas Cowboys will start quarterback Matt Cassel tonight against the New York Jets, he may not be in there for long if his struggles continue. ESPN's Ed Werder reported that Cassel will be on a "short leash" tonight against the New York Jets with Kellen Moore now prepared to step in if the coaches feel the time is right.

Cassel has struggled mightily since he replaced Brandon Weeden as the Cowboys' starting quarterback when Tony Romo went down. In seven games this season, Cassel has completed just 59 percent of his 196 pass attempts, accumulating 1,239 passing yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.

It's been nearly three months since the Cowboys swapped their 2017 fifth-round pick for the Buffalo Bills 2017 fifth-round pick and Cassel, things certainly haven't gone according to plan for Dallas. After benching Weeden for Cassel in October, Dallas could soon be on the verge of using its fourth quarterback of the season.

Moore received first-team reps for the first time this week and has spent the entire season with the team. The undrafted free agent out of Boise State has not made an appearance in his NFL career, so Saturday could be the first time he has taken the field in a non-preseason game since he started for Boise State in the 2011 MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.
