In a legal battle that seems to fluctuate every few hours, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott received favorable news on Saturday. U.S. District Court Judge Amos L. Mazzant informed the NFL and NFL Players Association that Elliott remains eligible to play until the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit rules on Elliott's case for petition against the NFL's original ruling. The report comes from ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio.
It serves as a setback for the NFL, which came away earlier in the week with the impression that they won Elliott's appeal in the U.S Court of Appeal's 2-1 decision and Elliott could begin to serve his six-game suspension immediately. Now Elliott will be able to suit up for Dallas while the NFLPA and its lawyers continue to appeal the case to a higher court.
Dallas, who is currently on its bye week this week, will return to the practice field on Monday in preparation for its Week 7 contest against the San Francisco 49ers. While the situation surrounding Elliott remains murky, fantasy owners now seem to have at least one more week of the running back's services. Fantasy owners that picked up Darren McFadden this week should still hang onto him, given the ongoing back-and-forth in the legal battle.
