Report: Darren McFadden Expected to be Cowboys Lead Back

The Dallas Cowboys really hate those of us involved in the fantasy football community. A year after we could run DeMarco Murray out there on a consistent basis and legitimately expect top-five running back production, the Cowboys running back situation is a fantasy wasteland entering the 2015 season.

Prior to the start of the preseason, many had Joseph Randle pegged as a major sleeper. After all, he was the only Cowboys running back with previous success and no real injury concerns.

Now, just over a week until the start of the regular season, that idea may very well be close to being scrapped altogether. Jason Cole over at Bleacher Report is indicating that the Cowboys expect Darren McFadden to lead the team in rush attempts this year:

If you feel like taking some frustration out on your keyboard right now, just make sure to get another one prior to your fantasy draft.

Speaking of said fantasy draft, it's unreasonable to expect McFadden to produce at a high clip over the course of a 16-game schedule. In fact, the former top-five pick has only played one full season in seven tries. That came last year when the Arkansas product averaged a lowly 3.4 yards per attempt with the Oakland Raiders.

The hope here is that McFadden will be able to return to previous form behind the best run-blocking offensive line in the NFL. Rememeber, up until the 2013 season, McFadden had averaged well over 90 total yards per game. Unfortunately, he's also missed 29 games over the course of seven seasons.

With an ADP in the ninth round McFadden could potentially be a decent play. However, you risk the possibility of simply wasting a pick based off his injury history. Is that chance you're willing to take?

As it relates to Randle, he's pretty much a "must avoid" in the fifth round.
