With the Tennessee Titans keeping only four wide receivers on their 53-man roster to start the season, it was pretty obvious that rookie Dorial Green-Beckham would play a pretty big role in the team's offense.
As we inch closer to Tennessee's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, things might be clearing up a tad here.
The Titans have not been all too impressed by third-year wide receiver Justin Hunter, who hauled in just 42 percent of the balls thrown in his direction, was among the least-productive pass catchers in the NFL last season. Overall, Hunter has a 42 percent catch rate in two seasons. Needless to say, that's not going to get it done.
With Kendall Wright and new acquisition Harry Douglas set to act as the Titans' starting receivers on Sunday, there's a good chance Green-Beckham will see action ahead of Hunter as the team's No. 3 wide receiver. When you considerin the team is unlikely to go with many four-wide sets, that's a pretty big deal. The idea here would be to move Wright into the slot and have Green-Beckham play opposite Douglas in three-wide sets.
While this isn't something to get too excited about from a fantasy perspective, it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Green-Beckham, a second-round pick in this year's draft, boasts a ton of upside. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound receiver also saw first-team action during camp, which could be an early indication of just how high the Titans are on him.
More so than target/reception numbers Sunday, it will be interesting to see total snap numbers for the team's four receivers. That should tell us something moving forward.
