Entering the final year of his contact, two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning wanted to get an extension done prior to the start of the regular season.
It may have taken all offseason (and then some), but that extension appears to be nearing a completion.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Manning is close to signing a four-year, $84 million extension with the New York Giants — an extension that will make Manning the fourth highest-paid quarterback in terms of annual salary.
The Giants were definitely facing a hard deadline here. Manning had previously indicated that in-season negotiations were out of the question, meaning that a deal had to be struck prior to Sunday.
Coming off a career-best performance that saw him put up 4,410 yards with 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, Manning will now likely finish his career in a Giants uniform.
