Report: Houston Texans to Name Brian Hoyer Starting Quarterback

The Houston Texans and head coach Bill O'Brien didn't wait long to name a starting quarterback for Week 1 of the regular season. After just two preseason games, the team is reportedly set to name Brian Hoyer its starting quarterback.

In competition with Ryan Mallett during the preseason, Hoyer didn't necessarily stand out in the Texans two preseason games. He completed 2-of-4 passes for 67 yards and a score in the team's preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers before completing 7-of-11 passes for just 52 yards this past weekend against the Denver Broncos.

Though, it's readily apparent that Mallett had out-performed Hoyer in the Texans' two preseason games, completing 15-of-18 passes in his two outings. This just goes to show us how much preseason stats actually matter in the grand scheme of things.

Neither quarterback was going to provide much under center this season. If Hoyer struggles early on, Mallett will likely get the nod.

And in reality, there is a good chance Hoyer will indeed struggle. In his final six games for the Cleveland Browns last season, Hoyer put up two touchdowns compared to nine interceptions for a 57.9 quarterback rating.

In terms of fantasy football, again there's not much to look at here. Unless you are playing in a 2QB league and decided against going early for your quarterback options, Hoyer isn't rosterable. He's not even going to be a decent value play in DFS leagues.
