Report: Houston Texans to Start Ryan Mallett in Week 2

That didn't take too much time at all. Just one week into the 2015 regular season, it appears that the Houston Texans are ready to make a change at quarterback.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the team is prepared to bench Brian Hoyer in favor of Ryan Mallett for this week's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Mallett, a former third-round pick of the New England Patriots, replaced an ineffective Hoyer under center in Houston's season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. With the game completely out of hand, Mallett led Houston to within one score, completing 8-of-13 passes for 98 yards and a score.

The Arkansas product represents much more upside than his veteran counterpart, which is likely one of the primary reasons that head coach Bill O'Brien has pulled the plug on the Hoyer project. With an ability to actually get the ball down the field, Mallett represents a much higher ceiling for the Texans.

He's also a legit under-the-radar DFS option in Week 2. If you're planning on going cheap at the quarterback position, Mallett is not a bad play at $6500.
