Despite what was a stellar rookie season and what appears to be a great performance thus far in his second training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly set to hold Martavis Bryant out of the starting lineup when the regular season comes calling next month.
According to a report by Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the expectation is that Pittsburgh will start third-year receiver Markus Wheaton over Bryant.
From his Q&A with fans earlier this week:
"That will play itself out. When they go to 3, which they often use, Markus Wheaton will play in the slot and Martavis Bryant on the outside. I think they will open with Antonio Brown and Wheaton as their two starters."
This isn't as significant as it seems. As Bouchette pointed out, both Wheaton and Bryant will be in the game with the latter playing on the outside. Lance Moore started last season as the team's No. 3 receiver. Assuming Bryant takes most of those reps this year, his number of snaps should reach the 600-plus mark, making him a fantasy option.
Now take into account the faith Pittsburgh possesses in its young receivers, and we could see a ton more three-wide sets in 2015. Both Bryant and Wheaton are rosterable options. It just depends on who you have higher on your list.
