Report: Redskins Set to Release Robert Griffin III

Following the team's wild card loss on Sunday, it didn't take long for news to leak out of Washington indicating that the Redskins are prepared to release former No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III

RGIII was named Washington's starting quarterback prior to the preseason, but suffered a concussion in August. At that point, head coach Jay Gruden reversed course and named Kirk Cousins the team's starter for the duration of the regular year.

RGIII was active in just one of the Redskins 16 regular season games and found himself inactive this past weekend against the Green Bay Packers.

This former Heisman winner fell out of favor big time in D.C. after leading the Redskins to a playoff appearance in his first season back in 2012. Injuries and perceived issues with the organization led to what has to be considered one of the most dramatic downfalls for a player in recent league history.

Being inactive for those 15 regular season games gave us reason enough to believe RGIII was on the outs in Washington. After all, the $16.2 million he's owed next year is guaranteed for injury only — something the Redskins didn't want to risk.
