Report: Washington Signs Josh Norman to Five-Year, $75M Contract

When the Carolina Panthers released All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman from his franchise tag, many knew it would be only a short time before the star corner cashed in with another team in free agency. Just a few days later, Norman has now agreed to a five-year, $75 million deal with Washington, according to Ian Rapoport.

Norman was seeking $14-$15M per season from the moment the offseason started and after contract talks broke down with the Carolina Panthers and the surprising decision was made to release him from the tender, Norman became a free agent and got exactly what he was looking for.

While everyone expected Norman to get the AVS he was seeking, it is surprising to see him receive $50 million in guarantees. The contract will make Norman the highest paid cornerback in the NFL and carry him into his age 32 season.

Norman joins a Washington defense that is steadily on the rise, but with a secondary that needed help. Last season, Washington ranked 25th in passing yards allowed per game (258) and 22nd in opposing quarterback rating (96.1), so this was certainly a needed upgrade.

Of course the aspect that might be most talked about is Norman now facing Odell Beckham twice a season, which will make must-see television.
