New San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerome Simpson was suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the regular season stemming from a traffic stop and marijuana citation from back in 2014.
No matter what those intent on attempting to pile on what has been a disastrous stretch for the 49ers want us to believe, Simpson's suspension was expected when the team signed him. They took it into account when actually agreeing to bring him on to the team.
An impressive performer during off-season activities and camp, Simpson's absense will impact the 49ers on the field. After starting receivers Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin, the team has major question marks at wide receiver. Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington and rookie undrafted free agent DeAndrew White are all in the mix for the 49ers third wide receiver job.
With Simpson out for the first six games, there's a good chance that new offensive coordinator Geep Chryst will look to go with more 12 (two tight ends/two wide receivers) and 21 packages (two running backs and two wide receivers). Heck, we might even see the 49ers throw out two running backs and two tight ends in specific packages.
The person to keep any eye on from a fantasy perspective is Reggie Bush, who is slated to play a role as the team's primary third-down and receiving back. I can easily see him in certain packages with starting running back Carlos Hyde. Potential cuff option here.
