Seahawks Looking to Get Jimmy Graham More Involved in Offense

This may just end up being a continual theme over the course of the 2015 season. Five games in, and the Seattle Seahawks still haven't found a way to involve one of the most-talented pass catchers in the NFL into their offense.

Jimmy Graham has recorded a total of 21 receptions for 204 yards and just two touchdowns. He's seeing an average of less than six targets per game and is on pace for the worst statistical campaign since he was a rookie in 2010.

At the very least, the brass in Seattle knows that there's an issue here.

"We’d love to get more," head coach Pete Carroll on Tuesday, via ESPN. "We’d love to get more from everybody. I’d love to get the ball in his hands more. He did well in this game, but we could use more. We only completed 15 passes in this game, so we need to get more activity out of him, just like we need to get more out of the other guys too. But he’s working hard at it."

At some point, it's going to become rather obvious that Seattle may have to change its offensive philosophy to cater to Graham. After all, the Pro Bowl tight end remains one of the worst players at his position in terms of blocking. In this, Seattle has had to either utilize two tight end sets or move Graham to the bench on running downs. This will continue to limit his play-making ability.

If Carroll is waiting on Graham to somehow find a way to mesh with the current offense, he might be waiting the duration of the season. At the very least, Seattle needs to find some packages for Graham throughout the game. Of the teams that have actually played five games, the Seahawks have put up the fewest offensive touchdowns in the NFL (seven). That's simply not acceptable with a weapon like Graham wasting away.
