On Sunday afternoon we watched a huge comeback by the Seattle Seahawks against the Atlanta Falcons, only to watch it slip away in the final minute of play. You could very easily say that if Pete Carroll hadn’t of called that timeout before the Matt Bryant attempt that we would be getting ready for a NFC Championship in San Francisco. As much as I wanted to see San Francisco and Seattle one more time, I can’t blame the coach for trying to “ice” the kicker. What it all comes down to is players play and coaches coach.
For the second week in a row the Seahawks fell down early in this game. Last week it was 14-0 to the Redskins and then 20-0 at halftime against the Falcons this week. The defense did the Seahawks no favors in this game even though they are a much bigger secondary than any other team. I will give them some credit since they held the most dynamic duo of receivers in Julio Jones and Roddy White to a combined 11 catches for 135 yards and one touchdown. They might want to invest in another top level pass rusher to compliment Bruce Irvin. You can’t let Matt Ryan drop back to pass without putting him on his back and expect to pull off the win in a hostile environment.
One huge positive in the game was the play of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who did everything that he could to will this team to a win. He set a rookie playoff record with 385 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Not to mention his contributions on the ground with seven rushes for 60 yards and another touchdown. There was not much that Wilson could do with only eight seconds left in the game down two points on the wrong side of the 50 yard line. It is safe to say that Seattle will be a force to reckon with for years to come.
