Tony Romo Out for Season with Hairline Fracture in Shoulder

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hairline fracture in his left shoulder against the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving.

Remember, Romo returned just last week after suffering a broken collarbone Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The injury occurred in the second half of the Cowboys 33-14 loss to the Panthers. Romo was down on the field and was immediately taken to the locker room for further tests.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed the injury Friday morning.

There will be a ton of second-guessing moving forward. Romo returned to the field Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins with Dallas boasting a 2-7 record.

The issue with sitting Romo for the remainder of the year, as some suggested following Thurday's injury, was that Dallas found itself still in contention for an NFC East title at the time of Romo's return. If he says he's healthy, there's no reason to continue sitting him.

With Romo out for the remainder of the year, Matt Cassel will get the start under center for Dallas.

At 3-8 on the year, the expectation here has to be that Dallas is done. However, the team could still find itself just two games back depending on what happens between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants on Sunday.
