Sunday's Dallas Cowboys - Philadelphia Eagles game was supposed to be a back and forth shootout, with Tony Romo and Sam Bradford battling it out. Instead it has turned into a medical ward with Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks and now Tony Romo leaving the game with injuries.
Dallas was leading 13-0 in the third quarter in the midst of another potential scoring drive when Romo lost the football and in an attempt to recover it, was slammed into the ground. He came down directly on his left shoulder and immediately grabbed it in pain.
Romo spent several moments on the field before he was escorted by the medical staff to the locker room, with a trainer supporting his arm. Immediate speculation about his injury centered around his collarbone with reports saying that Romo could be heard on the sideline saying "My collarbone is broken".
This would be the second time in his career that he suffered a broken collarbone. In 2010, Romo broke his collarbone on October 25 and did not return that season. If this is indeed a broken collarbone, Romo will certainly miss a major chunk of the 2015 season.
Romo's injury couldn't come at a worse time after Dez Bryant broke his foot last week. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported this morning that Bryant's surgery required a bone graft, which would extend his projected six-to-eight week timetable to a 10-12 week absence.
With Romo and Bryant now out for the foreseeable future, Brandon Weeden will be asked to hand the ball off very often to Joseph Randle and rely heavily on Jason Witten as his main target in the passing game.
This has been a brutal year for the Cowboys with top cornerback Orlando Scandrick suffering a torn ACL in the preseason and now Romo and Bryant being out.
It has now been confirmed by the Cowboys that Romo has suffered a fractured collarbone (clavicle). It confirms the initial fears many had and is a devastating blow for a Cowboys' offense that was already severly hurting.
