Top 100 Fantasy Football Players of 2014: #100- Rueben Randle

For the next few months, eDraft will run out a feature that profiles the top 100 fantasy football players from the 2014 NFL season. These are not subjective rankings, as they come in the form of our own grading system.

Season Overview

With Victor Cruz out of action for a majority of the season, Randle quickly took on the team's No. 2 wide receiver role behind the ultra-talented Odell Beckham Jr. And while his numbers weren't flashy, this former second-round pick from LSU did put up career-high numbers in receptions and yards.

Randle's best fantasy output came Week 16—some league's championship week—when he tallied six receptions for 132 yards and a score (19.2 points) against the St. Louis Rams. In total, Randle put up 100-plus receiving yards in three of his final six games. That could be an indication for success moving forward.

Consistency

eDraft has this pretty cool premium feature called "player consistency." It takes into account how consistent a specific player was throughout the course of the season. It also allows us to understand which players may have padded their stats with huge performances here and there while struggling for the rest of the season. For wide receivers, it looks at games in which a player put up 100-plus yards and/or one-plus touchdown.

Randle ranked 41st among wide receivers in this category with a 31 percent consistency ranking. This means that he tallied either 100-plus yards and/or one touchdown in five of his team's 16 games. Though, it must be noted that the LSU product did fail to put up as much as 40 yards in seven games. One indicator here (consistency percentage) shows him to be a decent FLEX option. The other, makes him irrelevent in fantasy football.

Best Four-Game Stretch

From Week 4 to Week 7 (Washington, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Dallas) Randle averaged about eight fantasy points per game. During that span, the young receiver put up 23 receptions for 254 yards and a score.

Worst Four-Game Stretch

From Week 12 to Week 15 (Dallas, Jacksonville, Tennessee and Washington) Randle put up a total of 12.7 fantasy points. Those four games saw him combine for nine receptions and 127 yards without a score.

Dynasty Outlook

The issue with Randle's outlook moving forward is that the Giants are expecting to get Victor Cruz back at 100 percent next year. This means that he's going to be a No. 3 wide receiver behind Cruz and Beckham Jr. It doesn't take a genius to realize that Randle's fantasy production will take a dramatic hit here.

With that said, the Giants love to run out three-wide sets, so Randle should see the field plenty. His ceiling this past season was, at best, a FLEX guy. Unfortunately, Randle likely isn't much more than a decent bench option and bye-week replacement in standard 12-team leagues.

As it relates to his overall dynasty outlook, Randle is a keeper. The Giants will likely look to move on from Cruz at some point in the next two seasons. This would enable Randle to re-enter the starting lineup opposite Beckham Jr, which would create one of the most-talented receiver tandems in the league. In that, Randle's long-term dynasty outlook is as a top-25 receiver.
