top 5 Fantasy Defenses for Week 15

Not much new to say in the fantasy defense department at this point in the season. Play the defenses that have gotten you to the playoffs, but put a greater emphasis on the matchups.

1.Seattle Seahawks

This is the defense that’s gotten you here. Seattle was likely the first defense gone in your fantasy drafts this summer, and continues to be the best option. It gets an easy matchup this week in the New York Giants, who are allowing the most points to fantasy defenses this year. No one has been more prone to interceptions this year than Eli Manning, who has only had three games this year without one. Owners will get a big week out of the Seahawks, who are primed to shut down one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

Projected Statistics: Seven points allowed, one sack, two interceptions, one fumble recovery

2. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers may have not gotten you here, but they certainly will finish the season for you. Despite allowing 31 points and scoring zero fantasy points in Week 14, Carolina will get back on track against the New York Jets and Geno Smith. The Jets are allowing the second most fantasy points to defenses this year, while Smith has thrown 20 interceptions and has lost four fumbles. Prior to Sunday’s game against the Raiders, Smith had gone four straight games completing 42 percent or less of his passes. This is a golden matchup for one of the best defenses in the league.

Projected Statistics: Seven points allowed, three sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery

3. Kansas City Chiefs

Despite some injuries to the linebacking core, the Chiefs surprised fantasy owners who were down on them last week, scoring 27 points against the Washington Redskins. Kansas City won’t have two touchdowns again this week, but they should wrack up some points against the Oakland Raiders, who are allowing just over nine points per game to opposing defenses.  Tamba Hali will also be back to help bolster the pass rush, which should lead to several sacks and at least one interception.

Projected Statistics: 14 points allowed, five sacks, one interception

4. San Francisco 49ers

Say what you will about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but they won’t be a pushover for the 49ers, who are coming on as a top-three defense this season. Tampa Bay only has 16 turnovers, which is tied for the third lowest in the NFC. However, in the last three games, San Fran has only allowed 36 points, and has scored fewer than eight fantasy points in just one o f its last five games. They’re a must-start this week against a Bucs team that allows over nine points per game to opposing defenses.

Projected Statistics: 13 points allowed, four sacks, one interception

5. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona’s defense has looked good all season, but it’s just a matter of the unit playing consistently. While the Cardinals have had games of 20, 17 and 21 fantasy points this season, they’ve also posted games of two, four and five points. But they were able to contain the St. Louis Rams last week, scoring 21 fantasy points and forcing two interceptions. The Titans aren’t as generous to fantasy defenses, allowing just over seven fantasy points per game, but Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t going to be intimidating defensive backs anytime soon, especially Patrick Peterson.

Projected Statistics: 14 points allowed, two sacks, one interception
