Top 5 Fantasy Quarterbacks for Week 9

1. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

As the No. 3 fantasy quarterback through eight weeks, Brees has pretty much lived up to expectations this season. He's done a much better job holding on to the ball and avoiding mistakes by throwing just five interceptions compared to 19 touchdowns thus far. New Orleans now takes on a New York Jets pass defense that was torched for five touchdown passes by Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Overall, the Jets are giving up about 19 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

Projected Statistics: 325 passing yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions

2. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

Over the course of his last three games prior to a Week 8 bye, Newton tallied 753 total yards with eight total touchdowns and zero interceptions. He was a top-five quarterback option in two of those three outings, which has enabled him to become a clear QB1 option after early-season struggles. Newton is lucky enough to go up against an injury-riddled Atlanta Falcons defense that is giving up an average of nearly 280 total yards to opposing quarterbacks this season and has intercepted just four passes this year. Look for another outstanding performance this week.

Projected Statistics: 255 passing yards, 65 rushing yards, three total touchdowns and zero interceptions

3. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Despite struggling over his last two outings, Romo is still the fourth-ranked fantasy quarterback this season. He's tallied over 2,220 total yards with 18 touchdowns compared to five interceptions in the Cowboys' first eight games. If that pace stands, it will end up being one of the best statistical seasons of an already outstanding career. Dallas has the fortune of going up against a Minnesota Vikings defense that allowed a score on every single possession against the Gren Bay Packers last week. Simply put, the Vikings have been playing some horrid football on defense. Expect Romo to rebound in a big way here.

Projected Statistics: 340 yards, three touchdowns and one interception

4. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

Fresh off a much-needed bye, Rivers and the Chargers look to pick up where they left off in the first half of the season. The veteran quarterback has been one of the most, if not the most, surprising players in the entire league thus far. He ranks eighth among quarterbacks in fantasy points and has thrown three times more touchdowns (15) and interceptions (3) through seven games. Rivers will be facing a really bad Washington Redskins defense that is giving up over 300 yards and 2.6 touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season. Look for Rivers and Co. to take full advantage of that.

Projected Statistics: 325 yards, three touchdowns and one interception

5. Terrelle Pryor, Oakland Raiders

If anyone had Pryor as a top-five fantasy option prior to the start of the season, we would have thrown them to the wolves much like Greg Schiano did with Josh Freeman. Instead of beating a dead horse into the ground, let's focus on how Pryor has performed this season. Despite throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, the third-year quarterback is on pace to run for nearly 1,000 yards and is coming off the longest run in the history of the Raiders' organization. The improved signal caller is also going up against an atrocious Philadelphia Eagles defense that is yielding an average of 330 yards and nearly 20 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 2013.

Projected Statistics: 215 passing yards, 75 rushing yards, three touchdowns and one interception
