It wasn’t until I sat down to write this that I realized how thin the running back position is right now. Rashad Jennings is in the top 12 this week, how does that even happen? But have no fear, fantasy owners, these five backs will take you to where you want to be in Week 12.
1.Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
Peterson returns to the top spot this week against the Green Bay Packers, who allow a little under 15 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Prior to his Week 11 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Peterson had scored 14 or more points in his last three games. The last time the Vikings faced the Packers, Peterson carried the ball just 13 times, but averaged 4.6 yards per carry and scored a touchdown. With Aaron Rodgers out at quarterback from Green Bay, this one won’t be nearly as high scoring as their Week 8 matchup, so Peterson will get far more than 13 touches, but should find similar per-carry yardage.
Projected Statistics: 20 carries, 100 yards, two touchdowns
2.Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs
After falling off against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, Charles should get back to his regular production against the San Diego Chargers. San Diego has allowed three receiving touchdowns to opposing running backs this year, and Charles has derived much of his fantasy value from being a part of the passing game. Prior to Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills, Charles had broken 11 points in every game, including seven games of 15 or more points. Charles is the No. 1 receiving option in Kansas City’s offense, and the Chargers certainly aren’t a top-tier defense.
Projected Statistics: 15 carries, 80 yards, four receptions, 40 yards, one receiving touchdown
3.Matt Forte, Chicago Bears
In point per reception leagues, Forte could be even more valuable in Week 12 when he faces the St. Louis Rams. The Rams are allowing the third most points to opposing running backs, and Forte has caught at least four passes in every game this season he’s appeared in except one. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been much of a touchdown producer besides a three-touchdown game against the Washington Redskins. But he’s had at least 18 touches in all but one game this season, and has produced at least 90 total yards in all but one game. He’ll exceed both of those marks this week.
Projected Statistics: 14 carries, 60 yards, five receptions, 40 yards, one receiving touchdown
4. Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
Gore started out the year as the focal point of San Francisco’s offense, but has since declined in production. Last week against the Saints Gore had just 13 carries, and only had 16 the week before against the Panthers. But as the worst passing offense the in the league, San Fran doesn’t have much else to use at this point besides Gore, especially against the Washington Redskins, who have allowed 13 rushing touchdowns this season. Don’t panic about his production against the Saints. This is completely different matchup, and Gore should find much more success.
Projected Statistics: 18 carries, 100 yards, one touchdown
5.Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers
Talk about being the focal point of the offense. Once Aaron Rodgers went down, Lacy took over as the main offensive weapon in Wisconsin. Since the Packers bye week, Lacy has carried the ball over 21 times in every game except one. He should find success against the Minnesota Vikings, who are allowing 19.8 points per game to opposing running backs. Lacy will get a ton of work in this one, and will approach the 120-yard mark.
Projected Statistics: 22 carries, 115 yards
