The tight end has become one of the top fantasy weapons in today’s game. If you have a top tight end on your squad you can count on him to get you a decent amount of points. For those of you still in the chase for a fantasy championship this year, one of these five tight ends can improve your chances this week.
5. Martellus Bennett Chicago Bears
Bennett is having a pretty good year this year for the Bears, and with Jay Cutler back the offense should be back to normal. This week they play the Philadelphia Eagles who allow the 402 yards per game this year. This is mostly because the defense is on the field so often because of the fast scoring offense. Bennett ranks ninth among tight ends in fantasy points this season but this week he’ll rank first in snaps played. The increased time on the field should make for a nice stat line this week.
4. Jimmy Graham New Orleans Saints
Graham is the hottest tight end this year and the only one with 1000 yards receiving this year. But this week Graham and the high flying Saints go up against one of the best defenses in the league this week. Not to mention the hiccup he had last week against the St. Louis Rams. He’ll get back to double digits this week but against a strong Carolina defense I wouldn’t expect him to go all Jamaal Charles and put the team on his back.
3. Antonio Gates San Diego Chargers
Gates is one of the most targeted tight ends and he also has 799 yards receiving this year. What’s hurt him the most in fantasy numbers is the fact that he hasn’t been able to get into the endzone constantly. With only three touchdown catches this year he is ranked 10th among all tight ends this season. He should have no trouble getting to the end zone this week as the Chargers face the Oakland Raiders less than intimidating defense. Earlier this year the Raiders got the best of the Chargers and Gates played decent but nothing spectacular. This week they’ll make up for the week five loss while Gates will have no trouble getting to double digits this week.
2. Vernon Davis San Francisco 49ers
Davis is one of the top scoring tight ends in the league with 12 touchdown catches this year. This year he will be going up against an Atlanta Falcons defense that gave up 381 passing yards last week to Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. They’ll have a lot more on their hands this week as the power packed 49er’s offense will come into the game looking to put up some serious points. Davis one of the most athletic tight ends in NFL history, is on #Beastmode #puttheteamonmybacktho watch in this one. Fully expect him to put on a show on Monday Night Football.
1. Jason Witten Dallas Cowboys
Forget the fact that Witten is one of the best overall tight ends in the game today. Forget that he’s probably Tony Romo’s favorite target next to Dez Bryant. Heck forget the fact that Washington has announced that they have stopped playing football to focus on their daytime tv show As D.C. Turns. This can be based on the fact that Witten tends to come up big against his NFC East rivals and this time is no different. Washington has struggled on defense all year and that isn’t going to change in week 16. Not to mention the only player capable of holding Witten in check is DeAngelo Hall who will no doubt be glued to Bryant. Witten will sit down for a four quarter buffet as Redskin linebackers and safeties struggle to keep him in check.
