1. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
2013 Statistics: 21 receptions, 312 yards and four touchdowns
What do you get when you get the best receiver in the NFL going up against a defense that has yielded the second-most fantasy points to wide receivers. First, a rather long day for the Green Bay Packers defense. Second, fantasy gold for said wide receiver. Johnson may not be on pace for the 2,000-yard season we expected, but he's still the No. 5 fantasy receiver through four weeks. We are just waiting for him to break out for one of those all-too-familiar Megatron performances. It's likely to happen at Lambeau Field where Johnson has put up 21 receptions for 362 yards in his last two games.
Projected Statistics: 10 receptions, 175 yards and two touchdowns
2. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
2013 Statistics: 29 receptions, 393 yards and four touchdowns
Why the hell not? It isn't like Thomas has failed any of us thus far this season. A lot of this has to do with Peyton Manning under center, but Thomas catches everything thrown his way. He's also accounted for 123 receptions and 1,824 yards in the 20 regular season games that Manning has been his quarterback. Do the math yourself. As it is, Denver goes up against a Dallas Cowboys defense that is giving up an average of 183 yards to starting receivers this season. That's only going to go up in this one.
Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 125 yards and two touchdowns
3. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
2013 Statistics: 14 receptions, 217 yards and one touchdown
They may not be the next Montana-to-Rice connection, but what Brian Hoyer and Gordon have done in two games this season is pretty amazing. Gordon has been targeted a ridiculous 26 times during that span. While he has come down with less than 54 percent of the passes thrown in his direction, Gordon just makes things happen on the football field. Cleveland now goes up against a Buffalo Bills pass defense that has yielded the fourth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. A struggling Joe Flacco even torched them for 166 passing yards when targeting Torrey Smith last week. This is a recipe for success for Gordon and Co. heading into Thursday Night Football.
Projected Statistics: Eight receptions, 150 yards and one touchdown
4. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
2013 Statistics: 26 receptions, 425 yards and four touchdowns
Out of absolutely nowhere, Cruz is now your No. 1 fantasy receiver through four weeks. A lot of that had to do with a 10-receptions, 164-yard performance he put up in a losing effort against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, but it's still mighty impressive. Cruz now has the pleasure of going up against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that is in completel shambles right now. The likes of Eddie Royal, Donnie Avery and Demaryius Thomas have tallied a combined 27 receptions for 325 yards and six scores against the Eagles over the past three weeks. Talk about completely crapping the bad and then sitting in it again, expecting to smell like roses. It appears that Philadelphia is in absolutely no position to stop Cruz in this one. It's going to get rather ugly.
Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 130 yards and one touchdown
5. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
2013 Statistics: 23 receptions, 282 yards and four touchdowns
Interestingly enough, Bryant could actually be considered a fantasy disappointment four games in. While he is the seventh-ranked fantasy receiver according to our official rankings, he has failed to finish as anywhere near a WR1 in half of the games he's played thus far this season. We might want to see a bit more consistency from the ultra-talented pass catcher. With that said, Bryant will see a ton of targets against the Broncos in what promises to be a high-scoring affair. Look for a minimum of 12-15 passes thrown in his direction, which will guarantee him a spot in the top five. It also helps that Denver ranks in the bottom-third of the NFL against fantasy receivers.
Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 110 yards and one touchdown
