Top Fantasy Football Notes Around NFL Training Camps

The Cleveland Browns named Robert Griffin III starting quarterback on Monday. It's not necessarily too much of a surprise, especially considering things were trending in that direction even prior to training camp. Of a group that also consists of Josh McCown and rookie Cody Kessler, RGIII represents the most upside from a fantasy perspective.

Though, there's very little reason to believe he'll be a fantasy relevant option this season. After all, RGIII is three years removed from being anywhere near a starter-caliber quarterback in the NFL. We're still going to want to see how this plays out during the early part of the season, checking the waiver wire accordingly.

With Josh Gordon suspended the first four games of the season, the Browns' made another interesting "announcement" on Monday. Quarterback-turned-wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was named a starter on the team's depth chart opposite rookie Corey Coleman.

Gordon will likely retain his starting job once he returns from suspension, but it looks like Pryor might have the inside slant to be the starter come Week 1. After all, he's running with the ones over Andrew Hawkins and Marlon Moore. Pryior sure is someone to keep an eye on during the preseason.

Moving on from Cleveland, the Denver Broncos named Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian co-starters at quarterback heading into this week's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. This pretty much means Paxton Lynch is no longer in the competition for the starting job.

Head coach Gary Kubiak had previously indicated that the exhibition opener will play a major role in determining the Week 1 starter. Either way, none of these three quarterbacks can be considered fantasy relevant.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz is unlikely to get any playing time during the regular season, but the expectation is that he will see a ton of action in the preseason. That should start this week with Wentz likely seeing the bulk of the team's snaps in the second half. It's something to watch from a dynasty perspective.

Rookie Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell was not listed as a starter opposite Stefon Diggs on the team's initial depth chart of the summer. Instead, that role is being filled by veteran Charles Johnson.

By no means is this an indication Treadwell won't be the Week 1 starter, but it does tell us a story of a receiver that's struggled in his initial training camp.

Fellow rookie receiver Josh Doctson will sit out his debut with the Washington Redskins on Thursday with an Achilles injury. He'll be joined on the sideline by Jamison Crowder, who is dealing with a hammy injury. As it relates to Doctson, it remains to be seen whether he'll be back before the start of the regular season. The first-round pick have been out since May.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a bone bruise in his knee. As we mentioned on Monday, there really shouldn't be much concern here from a fantasy perspective. Matthews has a built-in relationship with Sam Bradford and is considered the team's No. 1 receiver heading into the season.

The Los Angeles Rams seem likely to go with Case Keenum as their starter over rookie No. 1 pick Jared Goff when the regular season comes calling. That's an indictment on how Goff has looked during camp, but we are sure to see a lot of him during the preseason, starting this week against the Dallas Cowboys.
