1. J.J. Watt, Defensive End, Houston Texans
2013 Statistics: Eight tackles, seven solo, three passes defended and two sacks
This could be a pretty good matchup for Watt going up against Baltimore Ravens right tackle Michael Oher, who is much more comfortable playing along the right side than he is at left tackle. Oher has played considerably better this season than in 2012, but will be tasked with going up against the best 3-4 defensive end in the game. One simply cannot ask to stop Watt, it's all about containing him. After recording two sacks in his initial two games, Watt is looking for one of those statement outings. While Watt has recorded just five tackles and zero sacks in two career games against Baltimore, there is no one else who should sit atop this list.
2. Cameron Wake, Defensive End, Miami Dolphins
2013 Statistics: Five tackles, two solo and 2.5 sacks
With Sam Baker out of this game and Lamar Holmes moving to the left side, the Atlanta Falcons are going to have a difficult time stopping what is an elite Dolphins' pass rush. Wake will have the pleasure of going up Jeremy Trueblood, who will be making his first start for the Falcons. Can you see a three-sack game? That's pretty much what we are looking at from one of the best pure pass rushers in the NFL. Look for a huge game from Wake here.
3. Chandler Jones, Defensive End, New England Patriots
2013 Statistics: 11 tackles, seven solo and two sacks
Jones had himself a nice under-the-radar rookie campaign with six sacks in a part-time role for the Patriots. The young defensive end has now taken the next step and should be in line for a double-digit sack campaign. He'll be going up against Tampa Bay Buccaneers' left tackle Donald Penn, who ranks eight at his position in pass protection thus far this season, per Pro Football Focus. While this might not be a great matchup for Jones, we can expect him to at least get to Josh Freeman once and rack up five-plus tackles, including one or two for losses.
4. Robert Quinn, Defensive End, St. Louis Rams
2013 Statistics: Seven tackles, seven solo, four sacks and two forced fumbles
Quinn has racked up sacks in each of his first two games, an indicator that he's ready to become an ultimate force for the remainder of the season. It is, however, important to note that those sacks came against two weak offensive lines in the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. Can he line up against a rising star in the form of Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith and come out ahead? I am looking for a ridiculous trench battle here. Quinn should be able to provide some pressure on Tony Romo in this one. If so, he'll rank among the top fantasy defensive linemen for the third consecutive week to start the season.
5. Demarcus Ware, Defensive End, Dallas Cowboys
2013 Statistics: Two tackles, two solo, one intercepton, one forced fumble and two sacks
The Rams rank in the middle of the pack in pass protection this season, but Ware will be going up against an "elite" left tackle in the form of Jake Long, who ranks just 35th among offensive tackles in pass protection this season, per Pro Football Focus. It'll be interesting to see if Long can up his game at all in this one. If not, Ware will find himself in Sam Bradford's face all game long. You can expect a multiple-sack performance in this one. That being said, the overall tackles won't be there because of Ware's switch from outside linebacker to defensive end in the Cowboys new 4-3 scheme.
6. Mario Williams, Defensive End, Buffalo Bills
2013 Statistics: Eight tackles, six solo and 4.5 sacks
What a coming out party for Super Mario in Upstate New York last week. The $100-million man finall lived up to expectations by getting to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton a total of 4.5 times. Was that ridiculous performance more of a mirage or is Williams back? We will find out today when he takes on New York Jets left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who is among the most consistently good pass protectors in the NFL. Overall the Jets rank eighth in the NFL in pass protection, so it should be a good matchup here.
