Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys had their best season in recent memory in 2014. Their defense played well but still left a lot to be desired. If they can solidify some pieces on defense they could easily make the next step in 2015. The first part they need to improve is on the defensive line. As it stands right now, their starting defensive line is Tyrone Crawford, Terrell McClain, Josh Brent, and Jeremy Mincey. They desperately need to improve that. A lot of people will point to their secondary needing help, but if they improve their defensive line it will also help out their secondary.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have improved a lot already this offseason but the place they still need a dramatic improvement at is wide receiver. The Eagles don’t have a true number one wide receiver. They have Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, and Josh Huff. None of them are the kind of wide receivers that will keep defenses up at night. They need someone to take the tops off of defenses, because with the way they’re set up right now defenses will be able to bring a safety or two down into the box to try and stop DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews.
New York Giants
The Giants have a lot of needs but their top need is, without a doubt, at the safety position. Their starting strong safety is Taylor Cooper and they don’t have a free safety even on the roster. This is a bad need to have this offseason because the safety class in the upcoming draft is a weak one. Since it’s hard enough to hit on one safety position in the draft, I don’t expect them to hit on two safeties, especially in this class. What the Giants might end up doing is taking a true safety to play strong safety and trying to convert a cornerback to free safety, a la Devin McCourty on the Patriots.
Washington Redskins
Washington has improved leaps and bounds already this offseason. They’ve gotten better at most positions, but the one position they’ve gotten worse at is the linebacker position. They still have Ryan Kerrigan at outside linebacker but Gabe Miller, Keenan Robinson, and Perry Riley just aren’t going to cut it at the other linebacker spots. With the defensive line they have put together and the secondary they’ve built on, the weak link in this defense is undoubtedly the linebacking corps.
