Quarterback is an intricate, delicate position that has the power to carry the team on his back. Reversely, he has the power to be the sole reason for a loss. Measuring every quarterback without some sort of graphic baseline is difficult, hence the reason for the charts. The charts allow for each quarterback to be compared to another on a common, even playing field.
For each quarterback, eight games (four from the core of the season, four the beginning/end of the season) are watched and charted according to accuracy. Now, that is not to be mistaken for completions. A "miss" may have been a completed pass in which the receiver was forced to make a difficult catch, while a "hit" may have been dropped by the receiver. Due to that, the accuracy percentage on the charts are unlikely to match the box score completion percentage. Interceptions are marked as a separate stat, but touchdowns are not. This is because touchdown throws are not much different from a normal completion, whereas an interception is a turnover. Along with the accuracy charts, sacks (and what type of pressure forced them), passes swatted at the line of scrimmage, and intended throwaways are totaled.
The charts themselves are not a definite indicator of who is better than who, but it is a base upon which the articles that go along with that charts are written. After the final AFC section, a rankings article will be published. The same goes for the NFC. After both are done and both separate rankings have been released, an overall rankings list will be published. All sets of rankings will have my (Derrik Klassen) rankings, Nathan Manickavasagm's rankings (partner for the project), and a composite rankings list.
Without further adieu, here is the exclusive series. We will be updating the links below as each segment is released:
