Bradley Roby, Cornerback, Ohio State
Roby should be one of the first few cornerbacks drafted in May and for good reason. He possesses elite athleticism and good enough size to be a corner in the NFL. Roby will likely go anywhere from the 25th through the 40th slots in the late first and eatly second.
Look for teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, or even the Washington Redskins at the top of the second round.
How Bradley Roby Fits Team Needs
As far as the Redskins go, there are a lot of needs. Cornerback is one of these needs as DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson will not be there for the long run, and David Amerson is best used in zone coverage. Roby could fill in as the second corner opposite of Hall and start from day one.
Potential Impact As a Rookie
As a rookie, Roby should see a ton of snaps regardless of where he goes. But in Washington he would see the field almost every snap. Roby would be the second corner in the nation's capital and would serve as the key element against teams like the Eagles and Cowboys. The NFC East possesses some good wide receivers, and some really fast ones at that. Roby would be used to negate some of the speed in the division.
What Roby Does Well
Roby is great in man coverage when he is at his best, and in the NFL that is a huge plus. If a corner can stay with his man for four seconds or more, chances are the play is over for that receiver. Roby's athletic ability may be the best in the class at the cornerback position and it shows when he is on his game.
What Roby Struggles With
One sentence can be used to describe Roby's 2013 season at Ohio State, and I believe Justin Higdon from DraftBrowns.com said it best. "Roby played like a guy who was down $50K in blackjack and wanted to get it back in one shot". For those who are poker savvy, you know exactly what Justin means. Roby played almost too smart at times and tried to go for it all on every snap, meaning he would bite on double moves, and almost always go for a pick. If he can play a more conservative game, Roby could be a good corner in the NFL.
