Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul Out for Season with Fractured Ankle

Tis the season for unnecessary injuries around the National Football League. In his team's first preseason game of the summer, Washington Redskins tight end Niles Paul suffered a gruesome-looking ankle injury against the Cleveland Browns.

It's an injury that was so horrible that we will refrain from showing it on eDraft.

Paul, who had been listed ahead of Jordan Reed on the Redskins preseason depth chart, will reportedly miss the entire 2015 campaign with a fractured ankle

Needless to say, this is a huge blow for a Redskins offense that needed all hands on deck to improve off what has been a disastrous past two seasons.

Paul, 26, was coming off a career-best campaign that saw him rack up 39 receptions for 507 yards and a score in 16 games (seven starts). After what was a strong off-season and training camp performance, the former Nebraska receiver had taken over for the more heralded Jordan Reed on the team's depth chart.

While we hate to focus on fantasy football when a player's career may have just been put in jeopardy, there are some implications here. This injury opens up a starting role for Reed, who has put up 95 receptions for nearly 1,000 yards in his first two NFL seasons. In an offense that is going to focus on getting the ball to the tight end, the former Florida standout immediately becomes a potential late-round target as a TE2 option.
