Week 4 is a big week in the NFL and Fantasy Football. Teams are trying to get back to .500 or take off and get on a winning streak. Below are players you might be on the fence about that may or might not be worth the start.
Note: QBs can be found here
Running Back
START
Michael Turner, ATL VS. CAR
Turner has scored eleven touchdowns in the past seven games vs Carolina. The thirty year old running back may be on a steady decline and the days of Turner being a reliable top 15 option are over, but this week he is a high end RB2.
Stevan Ridley, NE VS. BUF
Ridley is coming off a week where Bilichick was play his own version of Shananigans. Danny Woodhead dominated the snaps in the no huddle offense New England used to attack an aging Baltimore defense. This week, Ridley should be out on the field acting as the feature back in a traditional New England offense—Start him as a RB2.
SIT
Mikel Leshoure, DET vs. Min
Leshoure had an exciting coming out party last week, leaving zero touches for previous starter Kevin Smith. Leshoure’s opponent for his second week of starting is a top fantasy defense against the run—Minnesota, who has yet to allow a rushing touchdown against them.
Stephen Jackson, STL vs. SEA
The “Golden Gate” or “Tate Gate” blown call scandal dominated the headlines for last week’s Monday night game. The true story of the night was Seattle’s defense. Rodgers could only hold on to the ball for a second or two before getting hit and Benson averaged 2.6 yards per carry on 17 attempts. Not only is Stephen Jackson less than 100% healthy but so is his shaky offensive line. Jackson is a low-end flex at best, look for other options at running back.
Wide Receiver
START
Denarious Moore, OAK vs. DEN
Moore’s targets have increased over the past two weeks (he missed week one with an injury) and now is the clear cut number one with Darius Hayward-Bay out with a concussion. Look to Moore to be thrown to early and often to pose a deep threat for Palmer. Very high end WR3
Greg Jennings & Jordy Nelson, GB vs NO
Look for this to be a shootout as both teams try to regain their identity as top NFL offenses. Both receivers should regain the status they ended on last year. Both high end WR2
Demaryius Thomas & Erick Decker, DEN vs OAK
Both receivers have been on the field for the 95% of the team’s offensive, they are playing against one of the league’s worst secondary and oh... they have that Manning guy at quarter back. Both are a WR2 with major upside.
SIT
Dez Bryant, DAL vs CHI
Chicago’s defense ended hot last year and continued to grow this year. Bear’s corner Tim Jennings is having all-pro first three games and is leading the league in interceptions. Bryant should continue his early season struggle against a ferocious defense in Chicago.
Danny Amendola, STL vs. SEA
Amendola stands just shy of six feet tall, where Seattle has a pair of six foot, three inches corners with excellent speed and a pass rush that will barely allow struggling quarter back Sam Bradford get ball out. Amendola’s hot game streak ends here. Keep him out of your line ups.
Tight End
START
Kyle Rudolph, MIN vs. DET
At this point, Rudolph is sneaking his way up to be a top 8 TE and should be starting each and every week. If you need one more week before you trade away your high profile name tight end you over drafted, this week should push you over the edge to fall in love with the red nosed rain deer. Detroit’s defense allowed 19 and 13 points to opposing tight ends in the last two games. Start him and be proud.
Tony Gonzales, ATL vs CAR
16 seasons in, Gonzales continues to prove that he is indeed ageless. He is currently second in points and leads the league in receptions for tight ends. He doesn’t show signs of stopping and has a match up against a poor Carolina pass defense. As Matt Ryan’s favorite target, start him as a rock solid TE1.
SIT
Jason Witten, DAL vs. CHI
Witten has looked awful this year with drop after drop after drop. Things won’t look better with Julius Peppers in Tony Romo’s face as he throws the ball toward Witten while he is covered by Chicago’s veteran line backing crew.
Defense
START
Seahawks vs STL
Bradford and Jackson shouldn’t stand a chance. Seahawk's defense is a must start at this point.
New England vs BUF
A bottom five defense just a year ago, revived by new acquisitions and rookies. Under rated defense vs. a struggling offense that will likely be desperate after the first quarter.
Dallas vs. CHI
Mathews had his way versus a weak tackle in Joe Webb. Look for Demarcus Ware to do same and cause many turnovers.
SIT
Philadelphia VS NYG
It doesn’t matter how good the defense Eli Manning is planning against, do not start defenses against offences that are as hot as the giants are right now.
Kicker
START
Matt Bryant, ATL vs CAR
The Panthers have given opposing Kickers digit fantasy points in all of 2012. Look for that trend to continue against a strong team in the Falcons.
Connor Barth, TB vs WAS
Barth hasn’t been a popular name but he is turning out to be a solid option. The Buccaneers are plus four on the turn over battle with a solid offense. Barth should get his opportunities and should take advantage of them.
SIT
Robbie Gould, CHI vs DAL
The Bears offense isn’t looking like it can move the chains or keep to ball out of the opposing defenders hands. Gould is a good kicker but won’t have a ton of opportunities, especially against a great Bears defense.
