Fantasy Football Week 5: Start/Sit Running Backs

RB Start/Sit

Start

Ryan Mathews, SD vs. NO
Mathews owners should be disappointed thus for this season. Mathews has the potential to be the best back in the league but injuries and fumbling issues have hindered his opportunity. This week the Chargers play the Saints who have allowed an average of 28 points to running backs so far this season. Mathews should break out this week or owners might be tempted to hit the panic button.

Cedric Benson, GB vs. IND
Benson faces a defense that has allowed an average of 23 fantasy points to opposing running backs in what should be a blow out. Expect Benson to get more and more as the Packers pull away with a victory. Benson is a solid RB2

Sit

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, CIN vs. MIA
Green-Ellis has been a great value so far this season. With an APD in the 5th round, Green-Ellis ranks between first and third round picks DeMarco Murray and Darren Sproles with 41 points on the season.  Green-Ellis’s success should come to a halt vs. Miami’s number one ranked run defense. Though having decent games vs solid run defenses so far this season, Green-Ellis is a high upside flex at best.

Fred Jackson/C.J. Spiller, BUF vs. SF
Both explosive backs are injury prone and coming off bad injuries while facing the league’s best defense. This is a fantasy situation to avoid at all costs for this week and until we see how the carries will be split, could be a head ache. Spiller and Jackson belong on the bench.
