What Would Jay Cutler's Best Fantasy Fit Be?

The Chicago Bears are reportedly actively shopping injury-plagued and struggling 33-year-old quarterback Jay Cutler with the hope of being able to get something in return.

Coming off a 2016 campaign that saw him play in just five games and fall out of favor in the Windy City, it seems highly unlikely that the Bears might be able to get something for him. That's until we realize just how poor quarterback play has been around the NFL. With as many as eight teams potentially in the market for a new starter, Cutler could receive some interest.

Here's the best scenario for Cutler from a fantasy aspect. No, we're not going include teams like the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs here. We're also going to take into account current personnel, so that pretty much eliminates the San Francisco 49ers.

It's the New York Jets, stupid.

Seriously, the Jets make a whole bunch of sense from a fantasy perspective. First off, Cutler would again be joining forces with the likes of Matt Forte and Brandon Marshall, two players he worked with in Chicago. Two players who also worked well with Cutler in Chicago.

Coming off a 2016 campaign that saw their quarterbacks throw a combined 16 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions, the Jets have the least-desirable quarterback situation east of San Francisco. Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are not long-term solutions here either. With both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith slated to move on, there's a major hole to fill here.

Despite last season's struggles under center, Fitzpatrick performed well in 2015 with this same group of Jets skill-position players. He threw for over 3,900 yards with 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. This enabled Fitz to finish as a bottom-end QB1 option.

No one can really argue that Fitzpatrick has been a better quarterback over the course of his career when compared to Cutler. If the latter were to take on the Jets' starting job with Forte, Marshall and Eric Decker in the mix, we could very well be looking at a strong statistical season.
