5 Remaining Free Agents Who Can Help a Team

Even though the NHL Free Agent Frenzy has died down, there are still some players out there who can help teams and some could possibly come very cheap. Here's a look at five players still on the market who can help a team.

Cody Franson: Franson is the best defenseman on the market and it has surprised me that he has been on the market for over a week now. He played well in Toronto and then was traded to Nashville and just didn't fit Peter Laviolette's system and was used wrong. He could be looking for a long-term deal but teams may be hesitant to do that because they could be in cap trouble. Any team should be thrilled if they can get Franson because he upgrades a teams top four defenseive corps right away.

Brad Boyes: Boyes was surprisingly bought out by the Florida Panthers the day before free agency opened and I again am very surprised he's still on the market. He would make any teams bottom six a lot better because he's a very good goal scorer and one had a 40-goal season for the Blues back in 2008. He could also play top six minutes on a team if that team is banged up. I'm sure some team will get him cheap on a one or two year deal.

Alex Semin: Semin was also recently bought out by his former team the Carolina Hurricanes and is looking for work. It just didn't work out for him in Carolina after he struggled putting up goals there back to back seasons. Semin is in need of a fresh start after the disaster seasons in Carolina and there should be a team out there who gives him one. Teams should just give him a one-year deal for now so he can prove himself and show that he can still be a threat in this league. If he shows that he can still play, then you give him a multi-year deal. It's a low risk high reward for any team that wants Semin.

Christian Ehrhoff: After a season of many concussions for Ehrhoff with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he's still looking for work and I'm not at all surprised that he is given all the injuries he had this past season. He's a good defenseman when healthy and is showed when he played with the Penguins last year when he wasn't hurt. He is an instant upgrade to any teams top four but my guess is that teams play it safe with him and only give him a one or two year deal since some teams don't want a repeat from last year.

Eric Fehr: Eric Fehr is the best center remaining on the market and that's just insane considering how bad the free agent crop was this year. Fehr had 19 goals for the Washington Capitals last year and is a very good two-way center. It will be interesting to see how much money he gets and how many years he is signed to since he can still be a very effective player on any team.
