Adam Larsson Starting To Find His Stride

It has been an up and down career so far for Adam Larsson. The rollercoaster started high for the yound Swede and then it crashed down over the past few seasons. Now, it appears, the 22-year-old is turning his fortunes around.

It started off on an extreme high after getting drafted by New Jersey fourth overall in the 2011 draft. Larsson played in 65 games after making the quick jump up to the Devils that season. He notched a decent 18 points that season. In the playoffs, Larsson played only five games but made the most of it scoring in his first game in Game 2 of the Devils semifinal series against the Flyers.

Down 1-0 in the third period, Larsson whipped a wrister past Ilya Bryzgalov's glove to tie the game. The rookie's goal sparked the Devils to win four-straight in the series.

For Larsson, it would be the only high for the next few seasons.

Injuries stunted his growth as a player and stretches of poor play put the young defenseman in Peter DeBoer's dog house. Both limited him to just 26 games last season.

When Peter DeBoer was fired on Boxing Day, Dec. 26, Lou Lamoriello, Adam Oates and Scott Stevens became the coaches and helped bring confidence back into Larsson's game. He earned more playing time and is now flanked next to Andy Greene on the Devils' top defensive pairing.

He's taken the opportunity and ran with it. In his last ten games, Larsson has tallied one goal and five assists. He is also a +4 in that span.

On the ice, Larsson looks like a new person with much less hesitation in his game. He's starting to shoot the puck more as well. In the last five games, Larsson has 12 shots. The Devils have very slim playoff hopes so the focus should turn towards making sure Larsson continues his growth as a player.

Larsson still has a long way to go, but this last stretch of games has to give Devils fans some hope that he will turn out to be the player New Jersey hoped he would become back in 2011.
