Biggest Team Needs for the Colorado Avalanche

Biggest Team Needs for the Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche had one of the best turnaround seasons you will see in a long time. They finished dead last the season before and this season they finished 1st in their division and made the playoffs for the first time in a few years.

New coach Patrick Roy and rookie sensation Nathan MacKinnon were a huge reason for their success. This team doesn't need needs but they could use a tweak or two to help them contend for the Stanley Cup. What must they do? Let's see.

Re-sign Paul Stastny

This is a MUST for the Avalanche if they are to have the success they had this season going into next season. He was fifth on the team in points this season with 25 goals and 35 assists to hit 60 points. That's going to be very hard to replace if you're the Avalanche.

Also, they need to get this done by July 1st or else other teams will be calling him and it could turn into an all out bidding war for him. Teams that have a lot of space will look to possibly overpay for him and Colorado isn't in a position to do that. The bottom line is that they just need to lock this up and worry about other matters such as Ryan O'Reilly.

Sign Another Defenseman

Colorado needs another defenseman and they could look at two options since there really aren't a lot of free agent defenseman out there right now. One is Dan Boyle who elected not to sign there after being traded there from San Jose. He's a very good puck handleing defenseman and can do pretty well on the power play. He's also looking for a two year deal it seems since he's at the end of his career.

Matt Niskanen could also be an option but he's going to command a lot on the open market. He could very well get five million per year and I don't know if Colorado will want to pay that much for the best defenseman on the market. It's going to be a interesting offseason for Colorado as they try and bulk up to contend for the Stanley Cup once again.
