We have four games on the schedule, with three game fours and one game three. Now that each team playing (save TB-DET) has had a chance to control matchups for at least one game, we can get an idea what each team will do (or adjust to). We saw some teams face a difficult adjustment traveling for game three, and I think we’ll see that again tonight with our only game three. With the matchups in the fourth game, I expect teams to adjust to “new barn shock” that we saw in New York and Calgary.

Playoff Series Notes:

- The Capitals lost the momentum they gained in the second half of game two, which is understandable given the series moved to Long Island. One reason for this is Jack Capuano pasting Johnny Boychuk to Alex Ovechkin, essentially neutralizing Washington’s main offensive threat. This is a viable strategy when the last change is in your playbook.

- In game three, expect Ovechkin to switch wings to try to counter the Islander matchup advantage.

- John Tavares got the game winner just 15 seconds in to overtime, but he’s been relatively quiet (for him) during the series. Similar to Ovechkin, I’d expect a Tavares breakout at some point based on his elite playmaking ability.

- Braden Holtby returned from illness and made 40 saves in game three, while Jaroslav Halak was solid for the Islanders. If Barry Trotz can get Ovechkin in space, especially now that he seems to be reunited with Niklas Backstrom, Halak is beatable for multiple goals a game.
