There are nine games on tonight’s schedule, which is the next to last full slate before Saturday’s penultimate marathon. Just like targeting teams that played the night before shouldn’t guide your lineup, you shouldn’t pick teams that are still alive in the playoff hunt only. Those two factors should be weighted lightly and used more as tie breakers when choosing between two players you like. So with that in mind, let’s go over all of our games tonight to see who we want to target.
It looks like the most value of the night is going to come in the form of mid-priced centers and left wingers, so paying up for right wingers and defenseman might be the way to go tonight. We have a few solid options in net, but pricing is generally pretty high on the most of the safest options.
1. Detroit Red Wings – Detroit has let us down recently, but I think they should be a good team to roll with tonight. The first and biggest reason has to do with the fact that Carolina played last night, meaning Anton Khudobin should be starting. That is a goalie to target during roster construction. Second, Detroit is getting healthy up front again (Justin Abdelkader the exception, and possibly Pavel Datsyuk) so you can roll out either top line. Third, the Hurricanes have a strong penalty kill but Detroit has had a good power play, and I’d bet on the rested team playing the bad goalie as opposed to the better penalty kill units that just played last night. Finally, the Red Wing goalie makes for a good cheap option in net that should be good for a win, making virtually the whole roster playable. Detroit has had good underlying numbers, so keep rolling with them at home tonight.
