Daily FanDuel Fantasy Hockey Picks: Jan 27, 2015

The NHL is BACK! After a 5-day All-Star break, we’re back in action with an 11-game schedule on Tuesday night. There are a large number of teams in great positions to score big tonight, so the key will be trying to narrow things down to a few teams to target for our cash game (50/50s, head-to-head) lineups. With twenty-two teams in action, there are plenty of great options for GPP tournament stacks as well. The best strategy for multi-entry tournaments is to create several different lineups and enter them into the same tournament, to cover a variety of teams that could go off.

Today’s article will provide analysis for the teams in action, top teams to target for daily fantasy, recommend players for FanDuel, and even sample lineups that could be used to help build ones for tonight’s play.

Top Teams to Target Tonight for Daily Fantasy Hockey

Calgary Flames – The Flames are a top 12 team in goal scoring and tonight they face the league’s worst team by far in all major categories – points, goals for and goals against, powerplay percentage, penalty kill percentage, shots for and against, and Corsi %. The Sabres have also lost 11 straight games and at this point may be looking more towards the future and who they’ll take in the upcoming draft. The Flames forwards are all relatively cheap and many of them are worth using tonight in daily fantasy. Perhaps the top powerplay unit is the best place to look for players to put in your roster, with Johnny Gaudreau, Jiri Hudler, Sean Monahan, Mark Giordano and T.J. Brodie.

Recommended Plays for FanDuel

TOP GOALTENDER PLAYS:

Carter Hutton ($6,700) and Ray Emery ($6,400) – Tuesday night’s schedule has a mix of everything, including some great value goaltender options to use in your tournament lineups, and possibly even your cash games if you feel like taking on a little risk in goal to afford the higher priced players up front. Both Hutton and Emery have had up-and-down seasons, but they are both coming off strong games before the break (Hutton a 2-1 overtime loss to Montréal, and Emery a 3-2 overtime win over Pittsburgh), plus both of their teams are a decent sized favorite for the win tonight.

TOP CENTERS PLAYS:

Sean Monahan ($3,600) – Somehow Monahan is still at a crazy low price in FanDuel, despite his strong production this year, and especially despite scoring goals in four straight games (21.8 FanDuel points). The Flames are massive favorites tonight and their players will be highly owned. At $3,600, put Monahan into any lineup and feel good about the money you’ve saved.

TOP RIGHT WINGER PLAYS:

Jakub Voracek ($8,200) – Voracek has been outstanding all season long, with a league leading 56 points, along with a +10 rating and a high shot total. He has great chemistry with linemate Claude Giroux and the addition of Brayden Schenn to the line has also been a positive one. Philadelphia is very capable of a blowout in this game against Arizona and the Flyers’ top line will be heavily involved. For what it’s worth, Voracek also put up six points in the All-Star game (record tying), so he should be feeling pretty confident right now.
