For daily fantasy hockey tonight, there is only one big favorite (Boston Bruins), but several teams that could have high scoring nights. This type of scenario always makes things very interesting as the key to winning will be finding the right teams and players to put into your lineups, and the lineups that score highest could have players or stacks that are very low owned.
In this article we’ll break things down to piece together the puzzle for tonight.
Top Teams to Target Tonight for Daily Fantasy Hockey
Even with the 9 game schedule tonight, there are a lot of games with close spreads and there is only one team (Boston) that stands out as a top target above the pack. The Bruins are large favorites at home to the Sabres, and you’ll want to get two or three Bruins players in your cash game lineup. Getting a player from each of the top two lines is a good strategy, and possibly one of their top defensemen also. In tournaments, various Bruins lines should be stacked together in different lineups.
Aside from Boston, it is a good night to build your cash lineup with a mix of players from across several teams that are in good situations (see recommended players below). On the flip side, it is a great night to play DFS hockey tournaments as there will be a lot of diversity out there. The key to winning in tournaments will be to create several different lineups and see if one or more of them goes off.
Recommended Players for FanDuel
TOP DEFENSEMEN PLAYS
Dougie Hamilton ($5,400) – Considering that the Bruins are expected to score several goals tonight, and the fact that their scoring up front is normally spread out, it is recommended to get one of their top defensemen in your lineup as they play a lot of minutes and are often involved in the scoring. Hamilton is the best choice of the group as he has the most offensive upside and has been the most consistent scorer this year (10 goals, 40 points) and also lately (six points in past seven games).
TOP LEFT WINGER PLAYS
Patrick Sharp ($7,000) – Sharp’s point total this year is well below what he’s done in recent years, but he’s been playing much of the season on the Hawks’ 3 rd line, as they’ve tried to balance out the scoring. The lines have been shuffled around though recently due to injuries and Sharp is now playing on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. With that upgrade, and his recent fantasy totals trending upward (2 goals last game, 21 shots in past four games), Sharp is very much a key player to target tonight. The Blackhawks play the Islanders who are one of the best overall teams this season, but they’ve lost three straight games and have not been a good defensive team (ranked 24th for goals against).
Melker Karlsson ($3,600) – As a VALUE play on Left Wing, Karlsson is someone to look at for tournaments. Karlsson plays on the Sharks’ top line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, and has shown the ability to go on scoring stretches. He’s currently on one of those streaks now, with a goal last game (and six shots), and three goals in his past five games. Karlsson won’t likely go off for a big game, but at his price he does make for a nice final value player for a tournament lineup. As a possible wildcard, Thornton might have some extra motivation for a big game tonight following a spat with the team’s General Manager.
TOP CENTER PLAYS
Ryan Spooner ($4,500) – Spooner is centering the Bruins’ second line and also plays on the top powerplay unit. He had a seven game point streak snapped on Saturday and he’ll look to start another tonight at home to the Sabres. Despite the streak, Spooner’s price hasn’t risen that much and he is the top VALUE play of the night for both tournaments and cash games.
