A total of 10 games hit the ice in the NHL this evening, and there could be a large number of high scoring games. Many of the games have playoff implications, with teams trying to climb into a playoff position, or secure the one they have. This is one of those nights with a low number of clear favorites and a lot of games that could go either way. Although that makes things a bit trickier for building cash game (50/50, head-to-head) lineups, it is definitely a great night to play daily fantasy hockey tournaments. There will be a lot of diversity in lineups, and the key will be hitting the right combination of players or team stacks that go off and leads you to big wins.

Top Team to Target Tonight for Daily Fantasy Hockey

Colorado Avalanche – The Avalanche are making a (very) late run at the playoffs, winning five of their past six games. They’re seven points back of the final wild card spot but with a game in hand and a lot of momentum. Tonight they face Arizona who are the worst team in hockey right now (yes, worse than Buffalo) and are challenging for the number 1 draft pick. Colorado has 4-3 and 5-2 wins over Arizona already this season, and we can expect a similar score tonight. For daily fantasy hockey purposes, it would be a good strategy to pick a player from each of their top two lines for your cash game lineups (along with defenseman Tyson Barrie), and stack their top powerplay unit for tournaments. Colorado doesn’t have a good powerplay overall on the season, but it does rank 7th so far in March. Arizona’s penalty kill has been bad all season, even at home where they are second last at only 76.3%.

TOP GOALTENDER PLAYS

Carey Price ($10,700) – Price has been the unquestioned best goaltender in the league this season, and he is currently winning the triple crown – 39 wins, 1.93 GAA, .935 SvPct. He is also the best choice tonight in daily fantasy hockey, especially for cash game lineups. Price has already beaten Carolina twice this season, allowing just one goal in both games. Carolina ranks 26th in the league for goal scoring and they’ve been a bad team on the road all season. Price is very expensive but on a night like tonight he is worth paying up for.

Eddie Lack ($7,300) – Lack has been strong in goal for Vancouver over the past couple weeks, with four wins in the past seven games and allowing an average of less than two goals per game in that stretch. He has another good matchup tonight at home to the Blue Jackets who are playing the back-to-back, and rank 24th in the league in both goals per game and shots per game. Lack makes a great VALUE play as a goaltender in tournaments and if you want to take on a little risk in your cash game lineups you could use him there as well and use the savings to load up on offense.

TOP RIGHT WINGER PLAYS

Jiri Hudler ($5,900) – Hudler (and the Flames’ offense overall) has been contained over the past two games, but prior to that he was on a hot streak with 12 points in six games. The situation is great for Hudler and his linemates to get back to their scoring ways, and another multi-point game for him is very possible. Getting one or more of the Flames’ trio is a good play for cash games tonight, and they should be stacked together on one or more tournament lineups.

Alexandre Burrows ($4,300) – As a VALUE play at Right Wing, look to Burrows who is once again playing on a line with the Sedin twins. Burrows excelled in this role in previous seasons, and is trying to prove that he belongs in that spot longer term. He did score two goals while playing on that line on Tuesday night, so that’s a good start. Burrows also scored against Columbus earlier this season and we could see a repeat of that tonight.
