On the other side of the fantasy rainbow there are the guys who have hit the ground running this season. Whether they were playing overseas or just that jacked for NHL hockey, these dudes were ready to play.
They might eventually cool off, but with a shorter season anything is possible. We all eventually expect to see the usual suspects rise to the top eventually, but it’s nice to see some new names and faces making the headlines.
If you have any of these players on your roster, rejoice! Additionally, you may also have someone on your roster that has considerable trade value. If you are struggling in a certain area, you might be able to procure a greater return if you sell high.
Here are your top five centers right now in the fantasy hockey world:
5. Mike Ribeiro-The Washington Capitals have had at least one productive center so far this year. Ribeiro has been a nice addition to the Caps after arriving from Dallas this summer in a trade.
4. Logan Couture-The young San Jose center has started the season with a bang. Three goals and five assists through the Shark’s first five games have Couture among the league leaders. He’s an up and comer so look for him to maintain this pace.
3. Steven Stamkos-The only surprise here is that Stamkos’ goal to assist ratio is reversed. Three goals and seven assists through five games are nice, but usually those numbers are reversed.
2. Joe Thornton-Jumbo Joe has raced out to a quick start as the primary facilitator of the number one player on this list. Thornton’s Sharks have raced out to five straight wins and would be the story in the western conference if not for Chicago’s six straight wins.
1. Patrick Marleau-Marleau has been unbelievable with nine goals in the first five games. While nobody expects him to continue at this pace, Marleau is at the top of the heap for all NHL centers right now.
