Fantasy Hockey 2013: Players Due For aRebound

It’s never to late for redemption in the sports world, even in the fantasy sports world. Players can catch fire at any time and snap out of a slump that has dragged them, and possibly their respective team down.

For the fantasy owner that is quick on the trade trigger, you may have already parted ways with your underperforming player(s), but don’t be surprised to see a return to form.

Here is a list of players that aren’t as bad as their statistics say. They are guys who have been at or near the top of the scoring table, or who have shown they are capable of playing much better.

5. Mike Richards, Los Angeles Kings

The former captain of the Philadelphia Flyers was traded to Los Angeles before last season. Richards was a point-per-game player in Philadelphia but took a nosedive last year. Being reunited with pal and former teammate Jeff Carter was supposed to get Richards back to form but hasn’t just yet.

4. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings-Maybe it’s the off-season back surgery. Maybe it’s the Stanley Cup/Conn Smythe hangover. Whatever the case may be, Los Angeles and their stud goalie better get back on track or they won’t be able to defend their title come playoff time. Quick has only three wins in 10 starts with a GAA of 2.87 and a .891 save percentage. Ouch. He’ll get better, because frankly he can’t get worse.

3. Corey Perry, Anaheim Mighty Ducks-To suggest that Anaheim star Corey Perry is snake bit is an insult to other snake bite victims. Playing in a contract year on a really good Ducks’ team, you would expect Perry to be a major contributor. Unfortunately for the soon-to-be free agent, he only has one goal in Anaheim’s first 12 games.

2. Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks-Former scoring title winner and league MVP Henrik of the “Wonder Twins” has been average so far this year. For almost anyone else, that would be okay, but in Vancouver the Sedins have set the bar much higher. Henrik is the assist man of the two Sedins, but fantasy owners have noticed no goals through the first 13 games.

1. Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals-The Capitals' wing is playing a more complete style that may not translate to the stat sheets. He dropped the gloves against Florida’s Kris Versteeg and fired up the team. He had the game-tying goal in an impressive come from behind overtime win. His scoring titles are probably behind him, but he might be evolving into a better all around player.
