Fantasy Hockey 2013: Start and Sit Goalies Week Two

The first week of the NHL season is almost in the books and there have been a few surprises so far.  There are a couple fellas atop the statistical leaderboards that will be long gone when the season wraps. There are some teams without a win that will certainly be a factor come playoff time.

The year will be interesting and played with an urgency that you’ll see typically when teams are jockeying for playoff spots. With just over half a season scheduled, each game means more than the next.

So how does your fantasy roster look after the first weekend. That top pick for Henrik Lundqvist or Jonathan Quick isn’t looking so great, eh? Well cancel that Lundqvist for Jagr trade immediately and have a little patience. Fast starts mean sell high. Don’t give up on your stud goalie just because he had a rough start.

Here are my goalie power rankings going into the second weekend of the season.

Start:

1. Henrik Lundqvist-He’s still King Hank, and will still get you your numbers. Be patient.
2. Pekka Rinne-Nashville’s backstop moves up in my rankings with a pair of solid starts.
3. Jaroslav Halak/Brian Elliott-As much as I hate to list the two together, start either one if you have them.
4. Jonathan Quick-Questions about the health of his back will continue until he plays better.
5. Corey Crawford-He’s playing like he actually wants to keep his job. Blackhawks are on fire and so is Crawford.

Sit:
1. Devan Dubnyk-Looked awful against San Jose. Six goals in the first period. Show me something Devan. Anything.
2. Ilya Bryzgalov-Watch him closely. He isn’t as bad as his numbers suggest, but he will be the scapegoat if Philadelphia keeps losing.
3. Braden Holtby-Don’t drop him yet, but don’t start him until he wins a game either.
4. Jose Theodore-Don’t give up on Jose yet, but he needs to be a lot better if you’re going to start him.
5. Anders Lindback-I expect him to get better, but he has been shaky in two starts.
