Fantasy Hockey 2013: Week Two Review

Two weeks are in the books now and the landscape of the NHL is starting to take its shape. Teams that have struggled out of the gate have righted themselves somewhat while the sprint to the playoffs continues. The first week of fantasy hockey has concluded as well.

Hopefully you managed to resist the urge to drop some of your top draft picks, even if they sucked for you. It’s still a long(ish) season kids, no time to give up on your season. There’s still a chance that “Don’t Toews Me Bro” or “Teeemu’s Salami” can rebound after a crushing week one defeat.

That’s where we come in. Here at eDraft, we spend the mindless hours combing through the hidden gems, sorting through the fool’s gold and point you to the legitimate players. Matt Read got his first NHL hat trick this weekend. Is he a legitimate pick up?

Chicago and San Jose have raced off to great starts in the western conference, while New Jersey, Boston and Tampa Bay have jumped out in the east. Pessimists will say it’s still early, but the realist says that after four or five games, this might be a valid trend for these teams.

What you need to be aware of right now is the possibility of injuries picking up a little. Add some depth to your roster if you have some room to drop anyone that’s struggling. Remember folks, without a training camp, some of these guys are playing themselves into shape. That’s when the muscle tweaks and pulls occur. They are impossible to predict, but be aware of who was playing overseas and who was sitting at home playing Xbox.

The final tip after week two is to trade your struggling stars early. Don’t over value Mike Richards or Alex Ovechkin right now. Bobby Ryan is not going to get you Henrik Lundqvist. He isn’t waiting for the right time to break out, he just might suck all year. Ovechkin is older, fatter and engaged to a hot tennis player. Hmmm, Hart Trophy? How about the Washington Capitals are winless and Ovi has as many goals in four games as I do. That’s zero, in case you missed the joke there.

Stay tuned folks, week three is kicking off, and we’ll have your top picks all week on eDraft!
