For any fantasy owner the task of having to sort through every player in the NHL to find the ones that are right for their team can be an overwhelming task. There are players that fantasy owners should try to stay away from that don’t have statistical flaws, but should just be avoided.
An obvious player to avoid is goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Last season fans got their first view of Bryzgalov playing for the Flyers, and things did not go as planned. There were some flashes of brilliance from Bryzgalov last season, but the constant inconsistency that Bryzgalov showed should scare away fantasy owners.
The L.A. Kings are very popular because of their championship season, but Captain Dustin Brown should be avoided by fantasy owners.
Brown gives the Kings everything that a captain should give their team. While being a great captain in the real world is great for the Kings, it does not help fantasy owners. Brown does get hits and very timely goals for the Kings, but fantasy owners need players who are stat grabbers.
Another key player to avoid is not really a player, but more of a group of players. All fantasy owners should avoid picking up any player on the Columbus Blue Jackets. It might seem harsh, but the entire Blue Jackets roster will be very bad for fantasy owners. When looking at the team no players stick out as potential stat grabbers and the team is not expected to do well. The Blue Jackets are rebuilding, and in the world of fantasy sports there is no place for that.
If the NHL season ever starts, and fantasy players get to have drafts they should know who they want to avoid before they get started. People can be influenced into who to get or who to avoid, but they need to make decisions for themselves. The most important thing any fantasy owner should remember when deciding who to avoid is to trust their instincts. If you have a feeling that a player is not for your team, then let them go and try someone else.
