NHL 2012: Kesler Bomb - Ryan Kesler is Always Ticking

There are few people as polarizing in the NHL as Ryan Kesler. If you are a fan of the Vancouver Canucks, he can do no wrong. His antics are playful and fun, and the diving he is often accused of  is simply gamesmanship designed to draw penalties and throw opponents off their game.

If you happen to root for any of the other 29 teams in the NHL, Kesler is a pariah and a flake. A diver and a phony that we love to see get wrecked in the corners. As an objective journalist, I place myself somewhere in between those lines, though I must admit, Kesler has grown on me.

The Livonia, Michigan native could possibly be a stunt double for Jim Halpert on NBC’s The Office, but instead passes his pre and post game time by dropping in on the interviews of teammates. This is commonly referred to as “Kesler Bombing” in the Canucks locker room and can be found in many different Youtube videos.

Kesler is coming off a down season after posting career high in goals (41) and dropping 73 points for the Stanley Cup runner-up Canucks. Last season Kesler only hit the twine 22 times and finished with a fairly unimpressive 49 points, his lowest since 2008. Kesler was coming off of hip surgery from last off-season and could have struggled to reach 100%.

For fantasy owners, expect a bounce back year from the Canucks number two center. Kesler loves to shoot and is solid in the faceoff circle. On a team loaded with talent, he will feature on both special teams scenarios.

A healthy Kesler is a welcome sight for Canuck Nation and a thorn in the side of opponents on both ends of the ice. While he might not get 40 goals for you, he’ll be an asset in nearly every category.
