Looking at Marc-Andre Fleury's Season so Far

Pittsburgh Penguins starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has had heavy criticism over the past few years in the playoffs, but last year he seemed to finally put his haters to rest after having himself a very good playoffs where he was far from the problem. This year, he's having arguably the best season of his career as he is 4th in the NHL with a .932 save percentage and 5th in goals against average. He's also third in the league in wins with 19 and 1st in shutouts with six. Let's take a look at a few reasons as to why "the Flower" has been so good this year for the Penguins.

He Stays in his net: The biggest problem of Marc-Andre Fleury when it comes to his goaltending is that he comes out to play the puck way too much and when he does, bad things usually happen. This year, he has taken a new approach and has decided to not play the puck as much when it's behind the net and to just let the defensemen go out and get it. It's worked to perfection as Fleury really hasn't allowed any bad goals this year like he has in past years. If he keeps staying in his net and not going out and playing the puck, Fleury is gonna be just fine.

Mike Bales: You may be surprised that I put the Penguins goaltending coach on here but he deserves a ton of credit. He's really helped Marc-Andre Fleury the past couple seasons after his playoff meltdowns and has made Fleury change just a few things from his game. It's worked to perfection and this year he looks like a completely different goaltender than he has in years past. I know we're only about halfway through the NHL season and that many things can change but don't expect fleury to change his game anytime soon. He's on another level so far and if he keeps his amazing play up, there will be no doubt that he could win the Vezina this year for the NHL's best goaltender.
