Mid Round Bargain: Jeff Carter

Mid Round Bargain: Jeff Carter

Fantasy hockey will eventually return. When it does, a player that owners could likely get for a low price is Jeff Carter. Carter is as well-known as some players, but he is an under-the-radar sniper who can help any team.

Jeff Carter was a great fantasy player during his time in Philadelphia. He wasn’t in the group of elite players, but he was easily in the group right behind them. During his next stop in NHL purgatory, also known as Columbus, Carter didn’t have a lot of offensive stats but was a faceoff machine.

After half a season of putting on an unhappy face and appearing disinterested, Carter and his frosted tips were shipped to L.A. where he was meant to be.

Carter gets stats with the Kings that are much closer to what he was producing with the Flyers. Being reunited with his boy Mike Richards has had a great effect on Carter. Richards is a center, so Carter is playing on the wing in L.A. which has resulted in a drop in faceoff wins.

The line that Carter is on really fits his style. Richards and Penner are both large physical players who can handle the dirty work in the corners. At first glance Jeff Carter is a big guy who should be a physical presence, but the whole physical thing has never been one of Carter’s strengths.

With a good line Carter will be able to put up good offensive numbers this season. Carter is now in a city that allows him to be the social butterfly that he is, and is also reunited with his wingman Richards which should all make him very happy.

Having a full season with a good team and being in a situation that he is comfortable with will also help. Carter should have a season that is similar to the production that he had during his days in Philadelphia. Carter is a player that most owners should be able to pick up later, but don’t wait too long or he could get snatched up.
