1. Washington Capitals: 38-9-4
The high-flying Capitals have the best offense in the NHL, scoring 3.3 GPG. The key has again been the Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Ovechkin connection, which were both All Stars this season. Ovechkin’s 30 goals are behind only Patrick Kane, and he appears to be heading towards another 50-goal season.
2. Chicago Blackhawks: 36-16-4
Their 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars gives them a five point lead in the division standings. Artem Anisimov managed to outdo linemates Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin by scoring four points in the one contest.
3. Dallas Stars: 33-15-5
Tyler Seguin has managed three goals in as many games in the month of February. While the offense may no longer be the top in the NHL anymore thanks to the Capitals, their 3.2 GPG is still good enough for second.
4. St. Louis Blues: 30-17-8
The Blues have been inconsistent in recent weeks. They had the three game winning streak in the middle of January, but since then have not been able to get on a winning streak.
5. Florida Panthers: 31-16-6
The Panthers are getting close to losing their top 5 spot in these rankings. Their losses to Pittsburgh and Detroit has allowed the rest of the Atlantic Division to catch up to them. The good news is after their away game against Buffalo, they have a six game home stand to try to extend that lead in the Atlantic.
6. New York Rangers: 30-18-5
The Rangers are rebounding after a terrible month of December that saw them lose their grasp of the Metropolitan Division. They face division rival Pittsburg on February 10th in a game that will have serious implications on the Metropolitan Division race.
7. Tampa Bay Lightning: 29-19-4
The Tampa Bay offense has gotten back to its old form, scoring 2.7 GPG. Their impressive 6-3 victory really showcased what a healthy Tyler Johnson is capable of, and it should scare the rest of the league.
8. Boston Bruins: 28-18-6
The Bruins have done a good job taking advantage of an easy schedule, beating the Sabres twice last week. They have the Kings at home before a long road trip that will test them.
9. Detroit Red Wings: 27-18-8
Their 3-0 victory over the Panthers showed why they continue to be a top 10 caliber team. In his last five games, Petr Mrazek has a 95.1 SV% and two shut outs.
10. Los Angeles Kings: 31-17-3
A couple weeks ago, the Kings had the Pacific locked down. However, their loss to the Ducks put them only seven points ahead of the rest of the division
11. New York Islanders: 27-18-6
In the month of February, the Islanders have played like an average team. They beat the bad teams like Minnesota and Edmonton, but lose to the good teams like Washington and Detroit.
12. Pittsburgh Penguins: 27-18-7
The Penguins have managed three or more goals in all four of their games in the month of February.
13. Nashville Predators: 25-20-8
Nashville are hoping to just survive their next five games against Washington, Tampa Bay, Florida, Dallas and Boston.
14. New Jersey Devils: 26-21-7
The Devils age seems to be catching up to them, as they have lost each of their last three games.
15. Colorado Avalanche: 27-24-4
The Avalanche are trending in the wrong direction in February, losing to Central Division rivals Chicago and Dallas.
16. San Jose Sharks: 27-20-4
With six wins in their last 10 games, the Sharks are redefining this Pacific Division race. Their fourth-ranked offense relies on depth, as there are currently five players with 30 or more points.
17. Anaheim Ducks: 25-19-7
Despite having the worst offense in the league, the Ducks are surprisingly eight points away from the division leading Kings. Their league leading Penalty Kill has got a lot to do with there success in the Pacific Division.
18. Montreal Canadiens: 26-24-4
The Canadiens have managed to halt their free fall in the standings, winning easy games against Edmonton and Carolina.
19. Philadelphia Flyers: 23-19-9
It’s hard to rank the Flyers because they have played fewer games than just about everyone in the Metropolitan Division. The team does have a three game home stand, so look for them to try to work their way up the Metropolitan.
20. Minnesota Wild: 23-20-9
The team has won one out of their last ten games, and look like they have close to no hope of catching the top pack in the Central Division.
21. Carolina Hurricanes: 24-21-9
The Hurricanes continue their strong play, winning three out of their last five.
22. Ottawa Senators: 25-23-6
The Senators have scored five or more goals in three of their four February games.
23. Arizona Coyotes: 24-22-6
Their four game losing streak has put the Coyotes further away from the Pacific Division playoff picture.
24. Vancouver Canucks: 20-20-12
Another struggling Pacific Division team, the Canucks are right now fighting off rumors that they are going to be a big seller at this years trade deadline.
25. Calgary Flames: 23-25-3
Words cannot describe how shockingly bad the Flames have played in the last couple weeks. They have four wins in their last ten games, and that includes an inexcusable loss to Columbus of all teams.
26. Winnipeg Jets: 23-26-3
The Jets are not a bad team, as their 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche shows. Their problem is that they have to play against the likes of the Blackhawks and Stars constantly because they are in the Central Division.
27. Buffalo Sabres: 21-26-6
The Sabres are looking at a rough schedule ahead of them, as they face Florida, Philadelphia and Montreal in their next three games.
28. Toronto Maple Leafs: 19-23-9
The team got smashed in their last outing, losing 6-1 to the Ottawa Senators.
29. Columbus Blue Jackets: 21-28-5
The team manages to avoid the bottom spot thanks to hard fought victories against the Canucks and Flames. With a five game home stand ahead of them, the Blue Jackets could further their climb up these rankings.
30. Edmonton Oilers: 21-28-5
With Connor McDavid, the Oilers are running out of reasons for playing as poorly as they are. They have given up 13 goals in their past two games.
