NHL: Week 19 Power Rankings

1. Washington Capitals: 41-10-4

The Capitals only have two losses so far in the month of February. Alexander Ovechkin has a large part in the team’s success, as he has scored seven goals in the seven February contests he has been a part of.

2. Dallas Stars: 37-15-6

The Stars could have a bigger lead than they do now if they had managed to defeat their biggest rivals in the Central Division, Blackhawks and St. Louis, during the month of February. Still, the Stars have to be happy that the Seguin Benn connection has gotten over their cold streak. In February, the two have combined for six goals and 11 points in the team’s eight games.

3. Chicago Blackhawks: 37-18-5

The offense has been carrying the team in their wins during the month of February. In the team’s last three wins, the team has scored five or more goals. Patrick Kane is running away with the MVP race, and has already scored 34 goals and notched 82 points.

4. St. Louis Blues: 33-17-9

Vladimir Tarasenko continues to lead the Blues to another top 5 place in these rankings. His performance against the Panthers, where he scored a goal and added an assist, showed that he will show up for the Blues when facing elite competition.

5. New York Rangers: 32-18-6

Henrik Lundqvist has been picture perfect in the month of February. The elite goaltender has a 1.49 GAA and a 94.2 SV% during February, and has five wins in the six games he has started.

6. Florida Panthers: 33-18-6

The Panthers have stumbled out of the top 5 after losing three out of their last five. With a power play that is among the worst in the NHL, their offense is also in jeopardy of falling out of the top 10 in the NHL.

7. Boston Bruins: 31-20-6

With three of their last four games resulting in victories, the Bruins are cruising up these rankings. Brad Marchand has been dynamite during February, with eight goals and 11 points.

8. Los Angeles Kings: 33-20-3

The Kings have been giving up ground to the Ducks ever since their 4-2 loss to them earlier in the month. The Kings schedule does not let up, as they face St. Louis and Nashville in their next two contests.

9. Detroit Red Wings: 29-19-9

The Red Wings have been average this month, with four wins and four losses. Good news is that Pavel Datsyuk has six goals and 10 points in his eight February games.

10. Anaheim Ducks: 29-19-8

The Ducks mammoth comeback is almost complete. They are only three points from leading the same Pacific Division that they were at the bottom of when the season began. Ryan Getzlaf has been a revelation this month, scoring three goals and putting up an impressive 13 points in his nine February games.

11. New York Islanders: 30-19-6

With four wins in their last five games, the Islanders are threatening a top 10 appearance.

12. San Jose Sharks: 30-20-5

As the dark horse team to win the Pacific Division, the Sharks started their road trip on the right foot when they beat Tampa Bay 4-2. Joe Thornton has three goals and nine points in what has been a successful February for him so far.

13. Pittsburgh Penguins: 28-19-8

Sidney Crosby has remind us all of why he is among the most feared players in the NHL. During February, he has put up seven goals and 12 points in seven games.

14. Tampa Bay Lightning: 30-22-4

With losses in four of their last five games, the Lightning have stumbled out of the top 10 in these rankings.

15. New Jersey Devils: 29-22-7

Their blowout loss against the Flyers isn’t reassuring to a team whose next three opponents are the Islanders, Capitals and Rangers.

16. Nashville Predators: 26-21-10

They are barely holding on to their playoff spot with a 2-3-2 record in February.

17. Carolina Hurricanes: 26-21-10

The Hurricanes are hoping that their victories against the Islanders and Jets can translate into a long winning streak.

18. Colorado Avalanche: 29-26-4

Just like the Predators, the Avalanche are caving in after a successful December and January.

19. Philadelphia Flyers: 25-21-10

The Flyers long road trip continues with games against Montreal and Toronto.

20. Montreal Canadiens: 27-26-4

Time may running out for the Canadiens who are still waiting for the return of Hart winning goaltender Carey Price.

21. Minnesota Wild: 24-22-10

The Wild managed to end their eight game winning streak with a 5-2 victory over Vancouver.

22. Ottawa Senators: 26-26-6

The Senators continue to fall in the standings after a three game losing streak last week.

23. Arizona Coyotes: 26-24-6

The Coyotes 171 goals given up is second only to Edmonton, which shows the team's defensive struggles this season.

24. Vancouver Canucks: 22-22-12

The Canucks continue to sit at the bottom of the Pacific Division, where they are tied for the least amount of wins with, you guessed it, the Edmonton Oilers.

25. Calgary Flames: 25-27-3

The once promising Calgary Flames have only won four out of their last ten contests.

26. Winnipeg Jets: 25-28-3

The Jets have the unfortunate task of facing Tampa Bay, Florida, Dallas and Pittsburgh during the remainder of the month of February.

27. Columbus Blue Jackets: 23-28-7

The Blue Jackets have been having a successful February, winning four out of their seven games. If they keep up this play, they could finally move out of the bottom five in these rankings.

28. Buffalo Sabres: 23-28-7

The Sabres February will wrap up with them having to face Anaheim, San Jose and Los Angeles on the road. That is not an easy task.

29. Edmonton Oilers: 22-30-6

Good new for the Oilers is they are not in last place. Bad news for the Oilers is they are bottom dwellers in the easy Pacific Division.

30. Toronto Maple Leafs: 20-26-9

It took Toronto over 50 games to finally get their 20th win of the season. Their blowout loss against Chicago reminded everyone the difference there is between the top of the league and the bottom of the league.
